A technique from a seminar here, a video there, a class planned the night before from whatever you saved that week. That's the patchwork curriculum, and your students feel the gaps when promotion time comes.
And when a student asks a question you can't answer, who do you ask?
A curriculum you can trust, from the man who built it
You already know your school needs a structured curriculum. The hard part is finding one you trust and can teach in order.
Master Carlos Machado was born in Rio in 1963 and trained as a boy under his uncle, Grandmaster Carlos Gracie Sr. He has taught jiu-jitsu since 1981, and today he gives academy owners the system he teaches.

-
Step 1
Book a call with the director
Pick a time and tell us about your academy. Roger Perez, the association director, walks you through each tier.
-
Step 2
Choose your tier and start
Pick Outpost, Affiliate or Official Academy, month to month. The curriculum opens in the members' area.
-
Step 3
Teach it and train with Carlos
Teach the monthly curriculum, bring questions to the weekly call, and bring your team to the Summit.
What a month looks like once you're in
New Gi and No-Gi lessons land in the members' area. Your instructors teach them to your students in order. You write down one question and bring it to this week's call with Master Carlos.
You pay one monthly fee. You send your students for rank evaluation. You bring your team to the Summit.
And your academy teaches jiu-jitsu the way Master Carlos teaches it.

An owner who came from other associations
Brad Haynes owns Awesome Martial Arts and has 30 years in martial arts. He belonged to other associations before this one, and he says "they were great, but I felt like a number."
Here, he says, "Carlos is so personable."

Questions owners ask
Do I have to change my academy's name?
No. Outpost and Affiliate members keep their own academy name. If you want the Machado name on your academy, that's Official Academy status, the top tier. You keep your own pricing and your own class schedule at every tier.
How much does it cost?
Outpost is US$249.99 a month, for academies with fewer than 15 students in total. Affiliate is US$499.99 a month. Official Academy is US$799.99 a month. Every tier is month to month, with no yearly contract, and every price is on the pricing page before you book a call.
Is Master Carlos really on the calls?
Yes. Members join a live Zoom with Master Carlos every week. You can bring your own questions. Matt White, a school owner, named what he got: "the ability to train and directly communicate with Master Machado."
I run a taekwondo or karate school. Can we join?
Yes, traditional schools adding a jiu-jitsu programme can book a call with the director. Brad Haynes has 30 years in martial arts. His words to other taekwondo owners: "this is definitely the best choice that I've seen out there." Schools like yours usually already have a jiu-jitsu black belt on staff, or a brown belt, to teach the classes.
Do I get help with the business side?
Yes, from the Affiliate tier up. Affiliate adds business sessions at events, a monthly owners' Zoom and a monthly business Zoom. Christopher Rangel, 30 years in business, called it "such a complete all around inclusive, dedicated, mentoring, business building programme."
What's in the curriculum?
Four tracks: Adult Gi, Adult No-Gi, Youth Gi and Youth No-Gi. No-Gi gets its own lessons, not the Gi lessons without the gi, and new lessons arrive every month. There's also a separate self-defence course, Self-Defense Fundamentals: 90 lessons over 30 weeks.
What if I'm not ready to book a call?
Start with the free courses. They're in the members' area, and you don't need a card to open them. When you're ready to talk about your academy, book a call and the association director will walk you through each tier.
Teach one curriculum, in order, with Master Carlos behind you
Until you have a system, you'll keep planning next week's classes the night before, from saved videos.
