For taekwondo, karate and traditional schools
Add jiu-jitsu to the school you already run, with Master Carlos behind it.
Brad Haynes owns Awesome Martial Arts and has 30 years in martial arts. About adding jiu-jitsu to a school like his, he says: "I would highly recommend it."
For the owner whose students keep asking for jiu-jitsu
You've built a taekwondo, karate or traditional school. Your students and their parents want jiu-jitsu.
It isn't your art. You don't want to hire a stranger, and you don't want it taught badly under your roof.
You likely won't need to hire anyone. Schools like yours usually already have a jiu-jitsu black belt or brown belt on staff, and that person teaches the classes.
You want a complete programme, taught in order, with a real lineage behind it, running next to the classes you already teach.
A few techniques isn't a programme
The easy way to add jiu-jitsu is to pull it together from seminars and videos. It fills a class. It doesn't give your students a system.
Techniques get taught out of order. Gaps show up when it's time to promote someone. And when a student asks a question nobody on your staff can answer, there's no one to call.
Matt White is a school owner who added a structured jiu-jitsu programme through the association. He put it this way:
"After training jiu-jitsu and grappling from various sources, I was aware that a structured curriculum was essential to the success of our school."
How adding the programme works
-
Step 1
Book a call with the association director.
Tell us about your school when you book. Roger Perez walks you through each tier on the call.
-
Step 2
Choose your tier and start.
Pick Outpost, Affiliate or Official Academy, month to month. The curriculum opens in the members' area.
-
Step 3
Put jiu-jitsu on your schedule.
Your jiu-jitsu instructor, usually a black belt or brown belt already on your staff, teaches each month's new lessons from the members' area. Bring your questions to the weekly call with Master Carlos, and bring your team to the events.
What your school gets
- A new curriculum every month, in four tracks: Adult Gi, Adult No-Gi, Youth Gi and Youth No-Gi.
- Youth tracks built for kids' classes. They're labelled by age, Ages 4+ and Ages 8+, and they carry no submissions and no chokes.
- A separate self-defence course, Self-Defense Fundamentals: 90 lessons over 30 weeks.
- A live call with Master Carlos Machado every week. He's an 8th Degree Coral Belt with 55+ years on the mat.
- Member pricing on the association's events, held twice a year.
- Your school's name, your pricing and your schedule stay yours.

Questions from traditional school owners
Who teaches the jiu-jitsu classes?
Usually someone you already have. Traditional schools that add the programme typically have a jiu-jitsu black belt on staff, or a brown belt. They teach from the monthly curriculum, and you bring your questions to Master Carlos on the weekly call.
Will jiu-jitsu replace what we already teach?
No. It's a programme you add next to your current classes. You set its schedule and its price, the same as everything else in your school.
Do I keep my school's name?
Yes. Outpost and Affiliate members keep their own name. If you want the Machado name on your academy, that's Official Academy status, the top tier.
Can I run it for kids?
Yes. The Youth Gi and Youth No-Gi tracks are labelled by age, Ages 4+ and Ages 8+. They carry no submissions and no chokes.
Is there a long contract?
No. Every tier runs month to month, with no yearly contract.
Can I look at the curriculum before I book a call?
Yes. Free courses are open in the members' area, and no card is needed. Try the free courses
Where do the lessons live?
In the members' area. New Gi and No-Gi lessons open there every month.
